Propagation Basics: Taking Offshoots
We are frequently asked about the propagation of cacti and

succulents. Here are some basic procedures for taking offshoots.

Step1: Spring and summer are the best seasons
to propagate cacti and succulents.
Choose overgrown cacti or succulents.
Step 2. Squeeze the container and remove
the cactus or succulent.
Step 3: Gently pull off the offshoots.
Step 4: Let the offshoots dry for at least
two days. If the offshoots have some roots,
plant them right away.
Step 5: Plant the offshoots in dry cactus mix. Keep
them in filter light. Do not water the offshoots for
at least two weeks. For succulents, wait a week.
Step 6: After two weeks, lightly water the
offshoots. Depending on the variety, the
offshoots take at least two months to root.
